Gilad Pellaeon is an existing Legends character.[1]
Biography
Early Years
At naval academy, Pellaeon befriended another talented young officer, Mynar Vernedet.[2] Recently after graduating from Judiciary Academy, he was then assigned to a local law enforcement group on Selonia, with whom he used Akk dogs to track down an underground Glitterstim manufacturer hidden in the sewers.[2]
Rise of the Empire
Upon formation of the Galactic Empire, Pellaeon became captain of the Valediction, a Victory II-class Star Destroyer. He commanded it at the Battle of Zhar, which saw the Bavinyar Avengers escape, and then he arrived at the tail end of the Battle of Farstine. Once again, the rebels fled before Pellaeon could do anything.[2]
Attack on Belsavis
Also at Farstine was the Empire's first superweapon, the Eye of Palpatine. Pellaeon was order to escort it, in what was expected to be a dull assignment while the Eye did its work. However, when he arrived at the rendezvous in the Moonflower Nebula, the Eye had been sabotaged by Callista Masana. Pellaeon wanted to keep his ships safe by staying at a distance, but Demetrius Zaarin ordered them to close in and contact the Eye. Upon doing so, the Salvation was disabled by a sudden attack from the battle moon, which then jumped into hyperspace. Pellaeon collected surviving escape pods, then took the Valediction to Belsavis to complete the original mission.[2]
Pellaeon asked Inquisitor Ameesa Darys about the details of the mission, and once he found out that they would be attacking Djinn Altis, he was stunned, since he knew Altis was not involved with treason against the Empire. Nonetheless, he carried on with his duty.[2]
The Valediction bombarded the surface of Plett's Well with relative ease, but the Jedi moved into underground tunnels, and when Clan Skirata and two Altisian Jedi arrived to help evacuate the Jedi, Darys insisted on taking two shuttles of Imperial commandos down into the tunnels. They did so and split up to chase the two separate groups of Jedi. Darys sought them out with the Force, eventually happening upon Nor Vald, So Plett, and the Ismaren children. Darys quickly bested Vald in a duel, then she pushed aside some of the rocks that had been collapsed Maze, allowing Pellaeon and the clones to continue pursuit. They once again split into two groups, with Darys venturing alone.[2]
Pellaeon and his commandos encountered So Plett with Lagan and Roganda Ismaren, the former of whom the downed with a stun blaster and cuffed. They then captured the children as well and brought them to the hangar, where they found that the rest of the Jedi and Mandos had escaped. As Pellaeon reported to the Valediction, Ameesa Darys returned, bringing Pellaeon's ex-lover Hallena Devis as a captive.[2]
Reunion with Hallena
That left him mortified and conflicted to the point that he considered himself unfit for duty. Once they boarded the Valediction and left for Bavinyar, he attempted to resign his commission and have Vernedet take over.[2] However, Vernedet would not allow Pellaeon to do so, and he decided to at least talk with Hallena in her cell first. Their conversation was brief, as he explained that he had a duty to the Galactic Empire and that he feared it would get worse if he left. She attempted to attack him, but he quickly subdued her and left the cell.[2]
He returned to her cell again while handling the prisoner transfer of So Plett, when he offered to help her escape from Ameesa Darys, but she pointed out that saving her wouldn't save his conscience. Once again, they could not bridge their ideological gap, but they did embrace one another romantically before Pellaeon returned to his duties. There they slept together and conceived Mynar Devis.[2]
Sabotage of the Valediction
They were interrupted by a communication from Mynar Vernedet, who explained that the ship had arrived in the Bavinyar system and was under attack by hijackers. Gilad quickly took Hallena from per cell and rendezvoused with the remaining Imperials, and he ordered Rede to bring Hallena to an escape pod, which they would use to flee if Pellaeon, Vernedet, and the other clones succeeded to sabotaging the ship. They went after the reactor core, but they were stopped by A'Sharad Hett and a team of commandos. Vernedet ordered two clones to carry Pellaeon away to the pod with Rede and Hallena, while he was killed attempting to blow up the reactor. Pellaeon finally decided to let Hallena go when he met her at the pods, but they were chased by Boss, Scorch, and Joc. Pellaeon and one clone got pushed into the pod, while Rede the other were killed, and Hallena rendezvoused with her allies.[2]
Pellaeon expected to be executed for his failures, but Octavian Grant chose instead to send him into a de facto exile, a menial post managing supplies at Filve.[2]
Battle of Endor and aftermath
After the death of his commanding officer abord the Chimaera, Horst Strage, Pellaeon had the Chimaera's bridge communications officer, the young Lieutenant Molgarin Reige, transmit the retreat order to the Imperial fleet. En route to the nearest sector capital at Annaj, Reige tried to convince Pellaeon that they should return to Endor as soon as possible.[3]
When the Imperial fleet regrouped at Annaj immediately following the Battle of Endor, Jerec called a war council aboard his Super Star Destroyer Vengeance. There, Pellaeon was berated by Grand Admiral Harrsk, who had been grievously injured during the Battle of Endor, for giving the order to retreat while Harrsk was still alive. Pellaeon expressed his willingness to relinquish command, but when the war council devolved into a conflict between Jerec, who wanted to build a new Empire under his command, and Harrsk, who claimed authority over the fleet but then departed for the Deep Core, Pellaeon took the remains of the Imperial fleet to Coruscant.[3]
For some time after the Battle of Endor, Pellaeon had an intimate affair with Molgarin Reige, who had been given command of a frigate whose captain had died. The affair ended amicably, and Pellaeon and Reige did not meet for three years. When they met again after that time, Reige had a two-year-old son, Vitor Reige, whose paternity she kept to herself.
The Orinda campaign
Funeral of Garm Bel Iblis
In 37 ABY, Pellaeon attended the funeral of Garm Bel Iblis aboard the Guardian in the Corellian system together with Turr Phennir. Following Phennir's example, he did not clap when Bel Iblis's victories against the Empire were eulogized, but he toasted to Bel Iblis's dream of a galaxy at peace during the social function afterwards.[3]
Joint fleet exercise at Anaxes
One week after Bel Iblis's funeral, Pellaeon was in command of the offensive side in a joint fleet exercise between the Galactic Alliance Navy and various local defense fleets. During the exercise, he pulled back two Star Destroyers as a ruse, only to use them to attack his opponent's flank at a crucial moment, a maneuver he learned from his defeat at the Battle of Celanon at the hands of the Dornean admiral Etahn A'baht.[3]
Personality and Traits
Based on his encounter with Djinn Altis, Pellaeon was skeptical that all Jedi would try to take over the Republic, but believed the claims of Emperor Palpatine that the Jedi Council had planned a coup. As such, he considered the policy of exterminating all Jedi to be likely overkill.[2]
In 37 ABY, Pellaeon was still mourning the death of his son Mynar Devis. He suspected that Vitor Reige, the son of Molgarin Reige, was his son as well, but he was reluctant to find out, because he did not want to go through finding a son and losing him again.[3]
