Bavinyar was a planet known for the stubborn, independent spirit of its people.[1]

Description

Bavinyar was a beautiful, blue world.[1] It had 87 inhabited islands, the second-largest of which was Waylar, with over 100,000 inhabitants.[1] The largest was Cephalia, with several hundred thousand. The island of Maressa had 35,000 people and was just south of Cephalia.[1]

History

Bavinyar was settled circa 122 BBY, by human colonists who fled the influence of the Galactic Republic. During the Clone Wars, Bavinyar allied with the Confederacy of Independent Systems, as its people were fiercely independent.[1]

It was conquered by the Galactic Empire, but many rogue elements of the Bavinyar Defense Force fled to form the Bavinyar Avengers, continuing the battle against the Empire. To draw them out, Octavian Grant blockaded Bavinyar and began to bombard its settlements from orbit.[1] First, he destroyed Waylar, and he destroyed 14 more islands, including Maressa, during the blockade. After Syne's forces destroyed the two interdictors in orbit, many Bavinyari were able to flee aboard their ships, and others, particularly those in Cephalia, boarded the Chu'unthor, which took them safely offworld. They hid from the Empire on a variety of uncharted and backwater worlds, spreading out in order to escape its vengeance.[1]
