Demetrius Zaarin is an existing character from Legends.[1]
Biography
Early career
Zaarin was trained in starship engineering and was involved in the development of the Eta-2 Interceptor. At some point, he donated to a Senator's campaign in order to get a spot in the military. He worked with Octavian Grant on a mission to defeat Rodian marauders between Ando and Mon Gazza, in which he prioritized hardware testing over the mission. It nearly costed Grant a ship, and the two each blamed the other for the debacle.[2]
Eye of Palpatine
In 18 BBY, Zaarin was a Commodore in the Galactic Empire, and he had been involved with designing both the TIE Fighter and the Eye of Palpatine.[2] He brought both to Farstine, showing them off to Vice Admiral Grant, but the system was attacked by the Bavinyar Avengers and Sons and Daughters of Freedom during the tour. Grant had little way to observe the battle from the Eye, causing him to make tactical errors that cost them an Immobilizer-class Cruiser.
Nonetheless, the Eye and its mission to destroy Plett's Well was Zaarin's top priority, and Grant made it his priority as well. The Eye was sent to hide out in the Moonflower Nebula, and not long after, Zaarin went to join it aboard the Valediction. However, went he and Gilad Pellaeon arrived, the found the Eye had been sabotaged by Callista Masana.[2]
Recovery
Zaarin remained aboard the Valediction, and he observed it carry out the original mission of the Eye. Although it succeeded in bringing about the Destruction of Plett's Well, most of the Jedi younglings escaped, which Zaarin was quick to criticize Gilad Pellaeon for in his report to Grant. They then went to Bavinyar to aid in the Blockade of Bavinyar. Upon arriving in the system, Zaarin went aboard a shuttle along with the imprisoned Roganda Ismaren to the Majesty, where he received a very small welcoming party.[2] Zaarin took little blame for the failure of the Eye, which was to secret to even be known about in most circles, and since his TIEs performed admirably on the whole, he continued his rise through the Imperial ranks, despite being present for the failures at both Belsavis and Bavinyar.[2]
Legacy
In 4 ABY, Arden Lyn remembered Zaarin as one of the many men who sold her out.[3]
Personality and Traits
Zaarin cared little about formalities.[2]
