"The Late Fode and Beed Show: The Announcer's Tale" is a short story co-written by Varth Nodom and Wayne Mann. It was first published on November 21, 2024 as the twenty-seventh story from Tales from the Boonta Eve Classic. It is the twenty-third story in the print release of the anthology.[3]
Blurb
It may not show up on the holocamera of their podracing talk show, but behind the scenes, there is tension building between the cohosts Fode and Beed Annodue. But these are no ordinary brothers: The two Troig heads share a body, and they can't agree on what to do with it.[2]
Plot summary
Fode and Beed, despite sharing the same body, are sick of each other. Unbeknownst to Fode, Beed has started taking medication to sever the nerve connection between the pair.[2] After Fode mistakenly makes an off-color joke about podracing being rigged, the pair have their show cancelled and find themselves pursued by Gardulla's forces. As these events unfold, the medication that Beed has been taking starts to have its intended effect and the pair lose the ability to communicate both telepathically and in Troig. They believe themselves marooned on Malastare until the Gran captain Boshana offers them passage.[2]
Boshana's ship is attacked by Gardulla's yacht, Queen of the Air; Fode, Beed, and Boshana are captured and interred in the ship's brig. Beed, coming to regret his choices, puts aside his grudge with Fode. Having been some time since he last took his medication, the nerves connecting the pair gradually begin to restore. Using their tail, they free themselves and Boshan. With the help of an R3 astromech unit, the trio escape from Gardulla's forces. However, their ship is shot down over Tatooine, and they crash in the Great Mesra Plateau.[2]
The next day, Fode and Beed—now reunited as Fodesinbeed—meet with Jabba the Hutt to discuss new employment as podrace announcers.[2]
