"Sandsong: The Bounty Hunter's Tale" is a short story written by G.M. Max. It was first published on AO3 on November 1, 2024 as the eleventh story from Tales from the Boonta Eve Classic.[1] It is the thirteenth story in the print release of the anthology.[2]

Plot summary

Aurra Sing, trapped on Tatooine in service to the crime lord Lanooga[3], is dispatched by a Nikto crime lord on a bounty hunt. Her target is a drunkard residing within Mos Espa.[3]

On the eve of the Boonta, Sing visits a village on the outskirts of civilization and eavesdrops on two farmers. Later, she breaks into one of the farmers' homes and interrogates him to learn the location of her target. She then scales a cliff to find a suitable sniping perch. After surviving a sandstorm, she loses consciousness upon reaching the summit.[3]

On the day of the race, she snipes her target from afar with a slagthrower, then scalps the body after the dust from the race has cleared.[3] However, upon her arrival at the crime lord's safehouse, she finds the place has been cleared out. She throws her bounty's severed head at the feet of the gangers still inside.[3]

Later, Sing pursues an escape ship, crimson-bladed lightsaber in-hand.[3]
