"A Long Time Ago: The Spacer's Tale" is a short story written by F.C. Vulkan. It was first published on November 8, 2024[1] on AO3 as the eighteenth story from Tales from the Boonta Eve Classic. It is the tenth story in the printed release of the anthology.[2]
Plot summary
The titular unnamed spacer recounts a story from his youth to a group of children in Mos Espa. While working on a cargo vessel, he and the crew find themselves in a tough situation when the vessel is boarded by a band of Force sensitive pirates known as the Blazing Chain. The pirates have boarded the ship hoping to find "The Chamber" which, unknown to the crew, houses the holocron of Darth Nox.[3]
The spacer, his crewmates Kaden Draigo Skywalker (called "Draigo") and Johira, and the droids T3-M9 and LE-572 escape from their prison cell and lead a daring assault against the pirates. Draigo is killed in the skirmish. When Johira and the spacer corner the gang's leader, Shri'lakku ObnKhan, inside the chamber. Not wanting to pick a fight they are doomed to lose, the spacer decides to let ObnKhan and his crew leave with the holocron. However, once the pirates are off of the ship, the surviving crew members rally to their weapons stations and destroy the pirate fleet.[3]
Once the spacer is finished telling his story, a young boy asks if killing the pirates also justified the destruction of the holocron. The spacer is left dumbstruck.[3]

Continuity
This story claims that "Skywalker" is a "common name" in the Outer Rim[3], which seems quite farfetched given the significance of the Skywalker family in extant Star Wars lore. This could just be a narrative flourish on the part of the spacer.
Similarly, despite claiming Skywalker to be a common name in the Outer Rim, the spacer explicitly points out Draigo's "Alderaan[sic] accent."[3] Alderaan is a part of the Core Worlds, not the Outer Rim, and thus places into question why Draigo would have an Outer Rim-flavored last name.
