"Stardust: The Tale of Boles Roor" is a short story by Brennan C. Renwick. It is the first story in the Tales from the Boonta Eve Classic short story anthology, and was first released on AO3 on October 22, 2024.[1] The story centers around the misadventures of podracer and glimmik star Boles Roor in the days before and after the Boonta Eve Classic on Tatooine.

Blurb

Nasty podracer Boles Roor contemplates a career change, after an unlikely set of circumstances occurs during the annual Boonta.[2]

Plot Summary

Boles Roor is a galaxy-renowned podracer and glimmik idol—and an ill-tempered giggledust addict. Every year, he performs at the Pre-Boonta Eve Concert hosted at the Poodoo Lounge. The proprietor, an Elespad named Ersik, endures Roor's insults in exchange for the prestige (and credits) the Sneevel brings to the Poodoo Lounge. Ersik also indulges Roor's giggledust habit,

After shouting several slurs, Roor departs the Poodoo Lounge, and is almost trampled by a Cerean Aryx Bird. He is saved at the last moment by a Kiffar; however, his anti-human prejudice results in him meeting his savior with contempt instead of thanks.

When Roor starts his set at the Pre-Boonta Eve Concert the following night, he is heckled by a Toong in the audience. Roor bets five million wupiupi that the Toong—revealed to be Ben Quadinaros—is too cowardly to enter the Boonta Eve.

The next day, Roor places sixth in the podrace. After he learns that Anakin Skywalker was declared the winner, he recalls a boast he made during an interview on Malastare in which he declared he would never race again should a Human win. Refusing to renege on his word, Roor gives his podracer to his mechanic, Shrivel Braittrand, and focuses on his music career.

Behind the Scenes

Boles Roor's story was first expounded in the webcomic "Podracing Tales" by Ryder Wyndham.[3] The exchange between Quadrinaros and Roor at the climax of "Stardust" is adapted from this comic.[4]

Renwick stated that the character of Ersik was created to provide more representation for an obscure species.[4] This species was created for the 1987 Famicom game Star Wars, released only in Japan. To date, their appearance in the game remains their only appearance in official Legends material[5], making Ersik the first named Elespad in Star Wars continuity.
