Plot summary
After his father was murdered by Aldar Beedo, Kam Nale takes up podracing under the alias Elan Mak to pursue his revenge.[2] He chases Beedo from circuit to circuit, competing in the Boonta Eve Classic, Vinta Harvest Classic, Scrappers Run, and Aleen Classic between 32 and 29 BBY. However, he always comes up short of killing Beedo due to circumstances beyond his control.
After working with his late father's unsavory underworld partners to install illicit modifications to his pod, Mak gets closer than ever to his target during lap three on the Ord Ibanna Scrapper's Run circuit. Civilians are also present in his path, and, finding himself unable to cope with the slaughter of innocents, Mak decides not to pull the trigger.[2]
The following year, Mak gets close to Beedo once again, hoping to finally attain his revenge. However, Mak finds himself unable to pilot and activate the instrument of his vengeance: a hastily installed, stuck lever. He crashes. Upon coming to, Mak realizes that his reckless aim of avenging his father has been for nothing, and that he has actually fallen in love with podracing as a sport. Letting his grudge on Beedo go, he decides to finish the race.[2]
