Biography

Post-Endor

Eight months after the Battle of Endor, the commander of the Black Fleet, Jian Paret, received a message from the Imperial Ruling Council member Challer ordering him to bring the Black Fleet to Coruscant. Paret assumed that Challer was acting on orders from Paltr Carvin, who he assumed to be a proxy for Ysanne Isard. After receiving different orders from a Ubiqtorate agent, Paret falsely assured Challer that he was coming to Coruscant via Cal-Seti, while actually preparing a departure into the Deep Core.[2]

By this time, Isard had begun using a new office in one of the towers of the Imperial Palace,[2] though she would still conduct much of her business from her old subterranean lair in late 5 ABY.[3]

Asserting her power

In the year 5 ABY, Isard consolidated her power. After removing Plumba, Challer and Carvin from the Imperial Ruling Council, she slowly poisoned Baron Ragez D'Asta, taking care to make him just sick enough to recuse himself from the Council, but not so sick that fights over his succession would tear his private fleet apart before his daughter came of age. She considered the former Emperor's Hand Sarcev Quest less of a threat, on account of his apparent drinking problem. Regarding the Central Committe of Grand Moffs, Isard assumed that the Moffs would get tired of the capricious Trioculus soon and rejoin her. In all of this, Isard assumed she was doing what Palpatine would have wanted, while in reality the reborn Emperor disapproved of her feeble attempts to keep the peace, concluding that it had been a mistake to let Isard take over from her father.[2]

When the false Prophet of the Dark Side Kadann publicly threatened to attack Coruscant, inviting all Imperial warlords to join him, Isard initially dismissed his threats. Privately, she admitted to Sarcev Quest that she had taken steps to eliminate Kadann by sending the Prophet's disgruntled former apprentice Azrakel to kill him, aided by Grand Admiral Makati, who had his own reasons to hate Kadann. Isard also sent Quest to dissuade his old friend Sander Delvardus from joining Kadann, and unsuccessfully pleaded with Admiral Uther Kermen to bring a relief force to Coruscant. When a lookalike of Kadann was spotted near the First Church of the Dark Side on Coruscant, Isard had the Ruling Council member and Church of the Dark Side devotee Mahd Windcaller arrested on suspicion of treason and set into motion a plan to restore freedom of religion to the Empire to counteract the Church's influence. Soon after, Isard was confronted by a robot dressed up to look like Kadann in the Grand Corridor of the Imperial Palace. Her guards destroyed the robot, and Isard ordered Windcaller released again, having heard from Grand Admiral Makati that he was about to destroy the false Prophets' headquarters at Space Station Scardia. The true Prophets of the Dark Side were killed by Azrakel, Lumiya and Carnor Jax on Bosthirda soon after, ending the threat of their order.[2]

Despite those successes, Isard felt that she needed a Super Star Destroyer as a symbol of her dominion over the Empire.[3] She had the buried Lusankya slowly and secretly prepared for eventual use, transferring her clone from the chambers beneath the Imperial Sanctum to Lusankya before having the chambers filled with duracrete.[2] When the Grand Admirals Josef Grunger and Danetta Pitta clashed at the Battle of Tralus, Isard sent Grand Admiral Grant there with a hastily assembled fleet, hoping for him to bring back Grunger's flagship Aggressor. However, Grunger rammed Aggressor into Pitta's Torpedo Sphere at the end of the battle, and Grant was only able to salvage less than half of the forces involved in the battle, with most of the ships needing repair. Isard berated Grant for sitting out the battle on the sidelines instead of intervening, and sent him to a conference aboard Ardus Kaine's Reaper in the Pentastar Alignment to represent her interests there. At the same time, Isard congratulated Grand Admiral Makati on his success in eliminating the Prophets of the Dark Side, and tasked him with planning an offensive against Warlord Zsinj.[3]

At the same time, Isard had agents all over the galaxy looking for Syal Antilles Fel, the wife of General Baron Soontir Fel, who had disappeared after Fel's defection to the New Republic. When two New Republic Intelligence agents found Antilles Fel on Coruscant and brought her to a safe house, the safe house was attacked by five ISB agents. In the ensuing shootout, all of the agents were killed, leaving Antilles Fel alone and bent on fleeing Coruscant. Isard learned that her agents had been killed, but had no way of determining Antilles Fel's location.[3]

When a series of seemingly-random attacks cost a high number of Human lives in Imperial City, Isard sent Lieutenant Vaartsoon to investigate. Vaartsoon spotted a darksider, Baddon Fass, toppling a skycraper by using the Force to ram a hovertrain and other vehicles into its base. When Vaartsoon reported this to Isard, she asked Sarcev Quest to take care of the matter. Quest approached ambassador Sa-Di, a fellow darksider with far-reaching social connections. Sa-Di readily admitted that the culprit was his student, but he reassured Quest that they would be departing Coruscant for Byss momentarily. As a final act of destruction, they crashed Sa-Di's skyhook into Imperial City. Quest then informed Isard that no further attacks were forthcoming.[2]

Soon after, Grand Admiral Thrawn requested a conference with Isard, so she met him clandestinely on the fifth moon of the gas giant Muscave in the Coruscant system. Thrawn informed her of the status of his operations in the Unknown Regions, reiterating his conviction that his campaign against Nuso Esva was his highest priority, followed by securing the integrity of the Imperial Core Worlds. Isard asked Thrawn to assist Grand Admiral Makati in planning the offensive against Zsinj. Thrawn agreed, and also offered to help track down Syal Antilles Fel, on the condition that Baron Fel be given over to him alive after his capture.[3]
