Despot's Ruin is a fan fiction novel written by HandofThrawn45 (also known as Gregory O. Scott) and is the third and final book of the Despot Trilogy. It was first published on fanfiction.net on May 31, 2024. The novel takes place circa 25180 BBY and centers around Xim the Despot.

Synopsis

At the dawn of galactic history, two great civilizations collide. The war between Xim's Empire of Mankind and the Hutt Supremacy grows fiercer every day and side dares dares back down.

On the planet Idux, under the guidance of an enigmatic sage called Gedor, Jedi from all corners of the galaxy converge. Some wonder if they have the power to stop an apocalypse. Others wonder if they can use it without succumbing to darkness.

While Erakas and Essan contemplate unparalleled dangers, their former comrades venture deep inside Hutt space to unravel a mystery that will change everything they think they know about the war....

Development

Gregory O. Scott concludes the Despot trilogy with Despot’s Ruin, bringing two central storylines to their completion: the fall of Xim the Despot and the birth of the Jedi Order on Ossus. While the fall of Xim had been sketched out in Star Wars Legends source material over the years, the creation of the Jedi Order provided a blank slate for Scott to introduce long-held ideas he had been unable to place in a Star Wars setting until now.

Despot’s Ruin draws inspiration from unrealized official Star Wars projects as well as classic literature. This final installment intertwines the two major arcs, building on the foundation laid by Despot’s Reign and Despot’s Dream, while offering a unique take on the earliest days of the galaxy.[1]
