Promises is a fan fiction novel written by HandofThrawn45 (also known as Gregory O. Scott). It was first published on fanfiction.net on April 22, 2022. Set in 42 ABY, between the Legacy of the Force and Fate of the Jedi series, it explores the aftermath of Darth Caedus' defeat, with his friends and family struggling to rebuild their lives. Central to the plot is Jedi Knight Zekk, who has gone missing during the climactic battle. He finds himself captured by a mysterious man who enlists him in a mission that could determine the future of the Jedi Order.

Synopsis

The infamous Sith Lord Darth Caedus—once known as Jacen Solo is dead. Those that have been left behind must pick up the pieces of their lives. Caedus' former apprentice, Tahiri Veila, tries to find a place for one who has been both Jedi and Sith but now finds that she is neither. His former lover, Tenel Ka, struggles with the monster Jacen had become while trying to stop the last scheme he set in motion before his death. Finally, Jedi Knight Zekk, lost and believed to be killed during the final battle against Caedus, finds himself imprisoned by a pirate captain unlike anyone he's ever met. He is now forced into a mission that could change the shape of the galaxy...

Development

Gregory O. Scott wrote Promises to address a gap left in the Star Wars Legends continuity after the cancellation of Elaine Cunningham’s novel Blood Oath, which was intended to explain the fate of Jedi Knight Zekk following the events of Legacy of the Force. When Zekk reappeared in Fate of the Jedi with minimal explanation, Scott saw an opportunity to fill that gap.

Using the publisher’s summary of Blood Oath as a starting point, Scott diverged from what Cunningham might have written, while incorporating some elements from her previous work, The New Jedi Order: Dark Journey. In Promises, Zekk shares the spotlight with Tahiri Veila and Tenel Ka, with each character attempting to move on from their respective connections to the Solo siblings. Unlike Scott's longer works, Promises offers a shorter, character-focused coda to Legacy of the Force.[1]
