Biography
In 18 BBY, Melusar green-lit a mission to send Darman Skirata, Niner Skirata, and Rede to Mandalore in order to hunt down the Jedi who were harbored by Kal Skirata. While Niner and Darman intended to desert, he anticipated this, and had Rede relay the coordinates to the local garrison before the other two commandos could intervene. The local garrison and their Death Watch allies botched the attack, allowing most of Clan Skirata to escape, and Melusar reprimanded the commander for it.[2]
Despite this failure, Melusar knew that Darman was a valuable asset due to their shared hatred of the Jedi. When Darman learned from Kal that the Jedi had a safehouse on Belsavis, he told Melusar, and Melusar then passed the information onto Vice Admiral Grant, who planned an attack on the planet with the Eye of Palpatine, Salvation, and Valediction.[2]
Melusar's plans to use Darman as a spy came to a catastrophic downfall once Darman found out about how clones from Clan Skirata were killed by the Galactic Empire on Belsavis, making him suicidal, although Niner pulled the trigger for him. No one was told the details of why or how he died, which made Delta Squad and Sixer Squad even more frustrated by their superiors. That culminated in a mutiny on the Valediction during the Blockade of Bavinyar, which completely undid the Imperial strategy. For their failure, Octavian Grant intended to dissolve the 501st Legion, but Melusar chose to absorb all of the blame, committing suicide in exchange for Grant preserving his legion.[2]
