The Kalpana was a Praetor-class Battlecruiser which was used by the Galactic Republic during the Battle of Bandomeer.[1]
In the initial conflict in month 14 ABG, the Kalpana was used to attack the Separatist fleet, and it was boarded by 14 Colicoid Infiltrator-series Droids late in the battle. Because the Separatists were mostly lost, General Grievous ordered them to hide and standby.[1] The battlecruiser was eventually moved to right above Selbar, where it was used to bombard the city's shield.[1]
On the 2nd day of month 16 ABG, Sadiya Keldon was able to destroy the Separatist shield over Selbar, and Admiral Dorain used the Kalpana to attack it, although he was distracted by attacks from starfighters.[1] Keldon had also ordered him beforehand not to attack the town center because that was where she was, and she wanted to escape. Dorain was then contacted telepathically by Kuallue, who demanded he pursue and destroy a certain Sheathipede-class Shuttle. Kuallue believed that Grievous was aboard, but it was actually General Grievous's Decoy. Dorain eventually obliged, and they chased it west of Selbar before catching it in a tractor beam.[1]
That proved to be the beginning of its undoing, because Kuallue and Dorain decided to try to capture him, and that allowed the Grievous decoy to board the ship. At the same time, the Infiltrator droids were unleashed, freeing over a dozen Babteer Pil prisoners and helping the Grievous decoy escape the Clone Troopers. After that, the comms and the sensors of the ship were sabotaged, effectively blinding and deafening it. Kuallue ordered it to shoot at a Munificent-class Star Frigate that turned out to be a hologram, killing hundreds of clones and allowing Grievous to secure a major ground victory.[1]
