Selbar
Selbar was a town on Bandomeer.[1]
History
Besieged by the Republic
Selbar was used as a headquarters for General Grievous and the Babteer Pil after the Republic took over Bandomeer in 14 months ABG.[1] The Separatists destroyed the ramps that connected it to the basins below, creating an additional barrier that made it almost impossible for the Galactic Republic to attack.[1] However, they were worn down by the Republic blockade, and the Pablir Regional Medical Center became quickly overcrowded, dealing with shortages in both staffing and medical supplies. The shield over Selbar had the effect of trapping and concentrating airborne pollutants, giving some illnesses caused by the atmosphere. Many were also starving or suffering ill effects from poor water quality after the Republic took over their water treatment plant. The Meerians were also plagued by an Egoravirus outbreak.[1]
After an attack that destroyed the Valmin Water Treatment Facility, the Babteer Pil became very low on drinkable water. The running water in Selbar was toxic and undrinkable, useful only for flushing their refreshers, although they kept a supply of bottled water and collected snowmelt. With their water supply quickly dwindling, Grievous advised rationing out food more liberally, not expectign to last long enough to need their full supply. They gave out extra rations to volunteers for Babteer Pil, driving up recruitment. However, they were also protested, as many Selbar residents demanded a surrender. Grievous attempted to kick them out of the city and into Republic territory, but Sayida Keldon established that the Republic would shoot on sight anyone who left Selbar, thus forcing Grievous to take care of its entire civilian populace.[1]
Population
Meerians made up the vast majority of the populace, but other species were not unheard of, including Imbats and Svivreni.[1]
Geography
Selbar was surrounded by a U-shaped wall on its west, south, and east faces, while a sharp cliff made it difficult to access via the north or east sides. Lake Nilseen was not far away on its west side. Selbar was a in a cold, rugged, and mountainous region of rural Bandomeer, surrounded by strip mines with smoggy air. It was roughly two days' journey away from Bandor via Landspeeder.[1] To the north and east, there were Azurite strip mines run by Vulca Minerals.[1]
It had a ray shield generator over it, which could defend it from orbital bombardment. Despite its relatively small population, the town was densely packed with many relatively tall buildings, although no real skyscrapers.[1] Its downtown residential area had alleys orange-hued lighting and a skyway system.[1] The was also home to the For Peem Holotheater.[1] Around the northwestern part of town, Selbar had Jedlor Spaceport, which had enough open space to store ships as large as the Lucrehulk-class Battleship Venture.[1]
