Scouring of the Mid Rim
Main article: Scouring of the Mid Rim
In the latter half of 1999 BBY, Mandalore began a series of sieges along the outer edges of the Mid Rim and Galactic Hinterlands. The Republic, still in senatorial gridlock, let the crisis continue unabated.[3] An increase in attacks upon the Jedi Lords' territory further incensed souring relations between the Jedi Order and the Republic's political structure.[3]
While besieging Malastare, Mandalore was contacted by the Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Ruin, who proposed an alliance. To broker a deal, Ruin dispatched an emissary—Darth Bestia—to entreat with Mandalore in person.[4] Enraged by what he perceived as Ruin's cowardice, Mandalore had Bestia beaten and tortured.[5] During this time, Mandalore also met with Darth Cinder, Ruin's Shadow Hand.[5] In an effort to deal with both Sith, Mandalore decided to pit Bestia and Cinder against one another in a sporting hunt. He retained Cinder's droid—HK-47—and apprentice—Darth Fell—to use as bargaining chips.[6]
Mandalore attempted to sway Darth Fell to join his forces. However, his attempts were thwarted after he learned that Cinder and Bestia had broken the rules of the hunt.[7] To deal with Cinder and Bestia, Mandalore assembled his lieutenants and descended to Malastare's surface. The ensuing skirmish quickly turned chaotic[8] and, after his lieutenants were killed, Mandalore himself died in a duel with Cinder.[8]
