Biography

Early life and Jedi training

Lysara Synder was born on Fassa as heiress to House Synder—and, therefore, to the planetary government. As a young girl, she showed signs of Force sensitivity. As a result, she was disinherited and handed over to the Jedi Order.[2] She was taken to Coruscant, and eventually became the Padawan of Phanius.[3]

As Phanius' apprentice, Synder developed an insatiable curiosity and hunger for knowledge.[4] When Phanius sent her to the Archives to retrieve the Holocron of Tulak Hord, Synder opened the holocron herself, exposing herself to the horrors within.[4]

During this period, she met fellow Padawan Leide Pall[3]. The two developed a fast friendship which eventually blossomed into romance.[5][3][6]

Jedi Knight

Like other newly-anointed Jedi Knights, Synder was tasked with defending Republic holdings in the Galactic Core.[7] She developed a skill for piloting[7] and was often dispatched with interceptor squadrons to deal with spice runners.[7] She came close to capturing the renowned[8] smuggler Marcus Kregg, following him into a debris field against orders, but ultimately fell short.[7]

Synder did not join the Shield of Coruscant; she opted instead to remain Phanius' apprentice, where she was tasked with training the next class of academics[9].

Leaving the Order

When Phanius left the Jedi Order, Synder was one of fifty Jedi academics to depart Coruscant with him.[3] When Phanius turned to the dark side and declared himself Darth Ruin, Synder chose to turn with him. Naming herself Darth Cinder, she became Ruin's Shadow Hand.[5][3] With Ruin, Cinder took responsibility for establishing the first Sith academy on Korriban since the Cold War.[9]

Cinder accompanied Ruin to several worlds in search of wayward Sith tribes. On Yavin IV, they met with a tribe of Sith led by Hopel, who they later recruited into their new order.[10]

Taking an apprentice

In late 2007 BBY, Cinder left Korriban—despite Ruin's protests—to undertake a research expedition in the Mid Rim. She stopped on Ord Mantell to acquire upgrades for her vessel, The Ashen One.[11] While meditating in the Scraplands, she encountered a band of pirates haranguing a youth. Noticing the boy's latent Force sensitivity, Cinder decided to take him under her wing as an apprentice.[5][11]

Instead of returning to Korriban and Ruin, Cinder took the boy to train on Ossus.[12] After two years of training the boy—who she had since dubbed "Darth Fell"—she returned to Korriban, but kept the boy a secret by hiding him in the Valley of the Dark Lords.
