Funeral of Garm Bel Iblis
The funeral of Garm Bel Iblis was an event that took place in 37 ABY aboard the Galactic Alliance Executor-class Star Destroyer Guardian in the Corellian system. Bel Iblis had died peacefully in his bed a short while earlier. During the funeral, his coffin was shot into Corellia's sun from aboard the Guardian.
Formal eulogies were held by Leia Organa Solo, who emphasized Bel Iblis' resistance against the Empire and closed by saying that the Galactic Alliance had now achieved Bel Iblis' dream of peace; by Aidel Saxan, the Five Worlds Prime Minister of the Corellian System, who extolled Bel Iblis' Corellian virtues, particularly his boldness and his willingness to cooperate, negotiate, and promote ideas of unity; and by Galactic Alliance chief of state Cal Omas, who kept his remarks short. During the social event after the funeral proper, the Corellian Minister of Defense Thrackan Sal-Solo held an impromptu speech portraying Bel Iblis as a paragon of Corellian independence and belligerence, much to the chagrin of Prime Minister Saxan. After his speech, Galactic Alliance navy commander Gilad Pellaeon, Admiral Nek Bwua'tu, Fleet Admiral Cha Niathal, and the retired 181st commander Turr Phennir talked about the upcoming joint fleet exercise involving the Galactic Alliance navy as well as elements of various local defense fleets, among them the Hapan Royal Navy and the Bothan, Dornean, and Corellian defense fleets.
Among those in attendance were General Etahn A'baht, retired general Wedge Antilles, Admiral Lenola Baas from Hapes, General Tycho Celchu, Admiral Matric Klauskin, retired admiral Traest Kre'fey, and Corellian Vice Minister Denjax Teppler.[1]
