Imperial Lottery

The Imperial Lottery, also called the Galactic Lottery, was organized by the Galactic Empire to select citizens for settlement on Byss in the Deep Core. For that purpose, Byss was advertised as a "Paradise Planet" and the lottery tokens were marked with "PP," though detractors said the letters stood for "Palpatine's Property" instead.

In 3 ABY, Melia Keefe of Pedducis Chorios won the lottery for herself and her children Lora and Pameen. However, the Keefes were infected with parasitic drochs before their departure as part of a plan by Seti Ashgad to poison Byss. When the Keefes succumbed to the parasites during the voyage, Zak and Tash Arranda and their uncle Hoole used their lottery tokens to assume their identities and travel to Byss.
