Hat Lo, sometimes called the King of Uscru, was a human male crime lord operating in the Coruscant underworld.[1] Rising to power sometime before the Clone Wars, Lo asserted himself as a powerful force in the Uscru Entertainment District through racketeering and extortion. His gang, the Sign of the Tri-Forked Tongue, was still active at the war's end.
Biography
Personality and traits
Lo was considered by many beings to be exceptionally ugly.[2] He was short and rotund; he attempted to compensate for these qualities by wearing a large, conical collar to hide most of his face and shabby, loose-fitting garments that flattered his bulk.[2][3]
In contrast with most crime lords, Lo was squeamish[2][3] and disliked the sight of blood to such a point that he would not drink red wine.[2] Despite stalking and abducting Ayy Vida at the Verpine Roost and forcing her into being his consort, he installed a bundling board in their bed.[2]
In spite of his perceived shortcomings, Lo was haughty[3] and often overestimated his looks[2], skill[4], and worth.[3] Despite flaunting himself as the "King of Uscru", Lo was widely considered to be an upstart and inferior to both Black Sun and the Hutt crime lords of Coruscant.[2][3]
Continuity
Behind the scenes
When writing "Schutta: The Tale of Ayy Vida", Astrid Meadows based Hat Lo's mannerisms and speech on the real-world Irish mob.[5] Brennan C. Renwick, who wrote Hat Lo's titular story from Tales from the Outlander Club, gave Lo the trait of being squeamish to stand as contrast to his use of a punch-dagger.[5]
