Biography
Mission to Rathalay
In 27 ABY, Anakin Solo and Tahiri Veila were sent to Rathalay to support Jedi Master Yuhlan Sarn and her apprentice Eryl Besa, who were working with the Senate Select Committee for Refugees to help sentients displaced by the Yuuzhan Vong War settle on Rathalay. Just before Solo and Veila arrived, however, Rathalay was attacked by a full Yuuzhan Vong invasion fleet.
Arriving in a B-wing, Solo and Veila retraced the path taken by Master Sarn and Eryl Besa as they fled the invaders. This took them to the estate of the retired smuggler Kaerobani, where they caught up with Sarn and Besa but were attacked by Yuuzhan Vong warriors. Kaerobani was killed, and Master Sarn sacrificed herself in order to help the Jedi apprentices escape in Kaerobani's shuttle. The retired Grand Admiral Grant, who had been a guest at Kaerobani's estate, joined them in the shuttle and dislodged a Yuuzhan Vong warrior who clung to the landing ramp by launching the severed head of the droid 8t88 at him.
After the shuttle was attacked by a grutchin in the contested space above Rathalay, Anakin Solo landed it in the docking bay of the New Republic fleet carrier Intrepid. Aboard Intrepid, Grant quickly subverted the New Republic's frayed chain of command in the system, despite Solo's protests. After buying the New Republic forces some breathing room by ordering a strike against the Yuuzhan Vong war coordinator, Grant asked Solo for his advice regarding a strategy to take out the Yuuzhan Vong interdictor that was trapping them in the system. Despite his animosity towards Grant, Solo helped the former grand admiral refine his plan.
While Grant transferred to a gunship and challenged the Yuuzhan Vong commander to a ship-to-ship duel, Solo, Besa and Veila slingshotted around a nearby moon in A-wings and attacked the interdictor when Grant created an opening for them by charging the Yuuzhan Vong line. The three Jedi apprentices destroyed the interdictor, allowing a Dornean relief force to approach and hold off the Yuuzhan Vong while the remnants of the New Republic forces escpaed from the system.
Afterwards, Anakin returned to the Jedi refuge Eclipse in the Deep Core, where he struggled with his judgment of Grand Admiral Grant, who had lost his life and saved many but acted out of a desire for personal glory. Together with his siblings Jacen and Jaina, he decided to form a new Jedi starfighter squadron modeled on the Wild Knights, in which Anakin planned to include Eryl Besa.[2]
