Plot Summary

On Kamino in 26 BBY, Sergeant Ambu Kelborn, self-described Dar'Manda and reluctant member of the Cuy'Val Dar begins training his cadets in the use of what will one day be their primary weapon, the DC-17m interchangeable Weapon Systems. Still finding the situation to be surreal, Kelborn briefly muses on his feelings about his fellow Cuy'Val Dar, his feelings on Mandalorian culture and his abandonment of it in the first place, before beginning the lesson. However, Kelborn finds himself interrupted by the sudden sound of weapons fire, soon identifying the source as one of the Null-ARCs perched in the scaffolding of the room and taking pot-shots at alarmed Kaminoan technicians.

An incensed Kelborn borrows one of his cadet's rifles, before firing a warning shot at the Null, startling him and causing him to fall and break his arm. Kelborn storms over over the Null and angrily confronts him, furious over his careless and dangerous antics. However, while berating the young cadet, Kal Skirata approaches and after taking a moment to ensure the cadet, Ordo Skirata, is alright, begins to fight with Kelborn. The two get into a shouting match with each other, Skirata unapologetic for adopted son shooting at the Kaminoans, while Kelborn decries the Nulls as budding psychopaths and Mandalorians as hypocritical thugs who harm their own reputation.

Returning to his cadets, Kelborn notes that they were watching the exchange in fascination. Dismayed and not wanting to become a father figure to them as Skirata is to his cadets, Kelborn threatens to shoot any cadet who refers to him as "Am'buir". One of his cadets attempts to call him on his bluff, getting a swift punch to the stomach for his cheek, before Kelborn resumes his lesson.
