Grey Wolf is an existing Imperial I-class Star Destroyer from Legends.[1]

History

Commanded by Dagon Niriz, Grey Wolf was part of Grand Admiral Thrawn's flotilla at the Battle of Lhwekk in 5 ABY. At that time, Thrawn's reconstituted 501st Legion was stationed aboard Grey Wolf.

Grey Wolf then accompanied Thrawn to the Coruscant system for a clandestine meeting with Ysanne Isard. There, Thrawn detached the stormtroopers of the former Hand of Judgment from the 501st to search for Baron Fel's wife Wynssa Starflare.

Continuing to serve as Thrawn's mode of transport within the Empire, Grey Wolf took the Grand Admiral to Honoghr, then back to Coruscant, and on to the Ruusan system, where Thrawn intended to win the loyalty of the Noghri from Inquisitor Jerec. As part of that scheme, Grey Wolf coordinated a number of cloaked TIE Phantoms to fire on Jerec's Vengeance on Thrawn's signal.

Not long after, Thrawn and Grey Wolf headed into the Corporate Sector to pick up Wynssa Starflare from Orron III, where the Hand of Judgment had caught her. There, Grey Wolf and the interdictor Corvus accompanying her came under attack from the pirate Leonida Tavira's Imperial II-class Star Destroyer Invidious and Grand Admiral Grant's Oriflamme. By throwing mines at Grey Wolf from close range using Oriflamme's tractor beams, Grant succeeded in rendering the ship inoperable. Niriz had Grey Wolf scuttled, and Corvus picked up the majority of its survivors. After the battle, Corvus did salvage on the remains of Grey Wolf.[2]

Legacy

At some point after the destruction of Grey Wolf at Orron III, an Imperial II-class Star Destroyer was named Gray Wolf in honor of the original ship's sacrifice. Gray Wolf served as part of Grand Admiral Thrawn's forces at the Battle of Atravis V in 9 ABY.[3]
