Beezfitrar
Beezfitrar was a popular sport on Bandomeer.[1]
History
Beezfitrar, translating to the "The Endurance Test," started as a military training exercise, but it evolved into a popular sport that was played professionally c. 220 BBY. During the Clone Wars, it was by far the most popular sport on Bandomeer.[1]
Field
The Beezfitrar field was a kilometer long, with each team setting up a mobile camp called a hintar 400 meters behind their side of the mesram (meaning trench), which acted as the dividing line between the two sides.[1]
Timing
Beezfitrar is played for 6 hours per day for 10 days consecutively, to complete one game. There are then six days between the games.[1] There are as much as eight minutes in between plays.[1]
Rules
11 players from each team are active at during a given play, while the 40 others camped behind. Those who ever left the field were ineligible to play for the rest of the game. Those in the camp used minimal tech, drinking from canteens and eating canned foods heated by fire. They are available as reserves if the ball is taken all the way to their camp, meaning that it is basically impossible to gain more than 400 meters at once. The offense has five plays, called peetrat, to advance 10 meters.[1]
There was no kicking of kicking of the ball, but an offense on the last down could surrender possession with either a pim or pim-rif, which would force the defense to significantly back up and let them gain easy yardage. In a pim, the offense would lose possession but push the defense back. In a pim-rif, the offense would gain 3 points for making it to the goal line, as opposed to the 7 that they would get by scoring normally. 124 meters was considered an easy pim-rif.[1]
