Star Wars ReExpanded:Projects/Timeline audit
The ReExpanded Timeline Audit was a project undertaken by the Chroniclers to streamline the ReExpanded Timeline. This process led to the creation of a new timeline, as well as the creation of a stringent review process for adopting new fanworks into the ReExpanded continuity.
Background
In March 2025, the Chroniclers conducted an audit of the ReExpanded Timeline and concluded that it was in dire need of an overhaul. The original Timeline had been created in late 2023 with the intent that it would serve as a "living document" to compile a list of Legends-compliant fanworks. These fanworks were identified and submitted by various contributors.
However, there were several pitfalls to this approach which became more obvious as the Timeline grew in size. A vast majority of the material included on the Timeline had not been read in full; much of it was only included because it was tagged as Legends-compliant. Since anyone could recommend a fanwork for inclusion, many were added based solely on hearsay. This, unfortunately, resulted in some embarrassing conversations about works that, due to content reasons, should never have been included in the project. Finally, the sheer length of the Timeline proved not only intimidating to newcomers, but unsustainable to the Chroniclers.
MrGentleZombie and Shiss proposed the idea of auditing the Timeline, a process to which the Chroniclers agreed.
The audit
The audit began with the Chroniclers skimming material to deem if it was indeed Legends-compliant. If any work was deemed non-compliant or otherwise presented continuity issues, it was removed from the Timeline. Any works that were decided to be compatible were moved to another page on the Timeline spreadsheet labeled "Pending." With these works moved to a new section, the remainder of the material that had been read and reviewed was left on the main page, visible to the public, as an authoritative list of ReExpanded works.
To prevent the need for another audit in the future, the Chroniclers also implemented a review process. While new fanworks can still be suggested for inclusion, they are now added to the "Pending" tab of the Timeline by default. Once a work has been read and reviewed by at least four people (both Chroniclers and regular users), the Chroniclers vote on whether or not it should be added to the Timeline proper using both continuity-compliance and overall quality as a baseline.
Conclusion
Since implementing the changes to the Timeline and the review process, the ReExpanded project has grown dramatically. The project earned praise from community members for paring down the Timeline's length and for affirming that there is indeed a quality standard for the works included within.
