Ket Maliss was a Dashade assassin active during the Galactic Civil War.[1] Maliss was the last of the thirty-eight Dashade shadow killers cryogenically frozen by the Falleen Sizhran, and was himself employed by Black Sun's leader, Prince Xizor.
Biography
Maliss was thawed after the death of his predecessor sometime after 32 BBY.[2] He quickly became one of Xizor's favorite servants and top assassins.
Following the death of King Haxim and the rest of the Falleen royal family, Xizor used Maliss to resolve the remainder of his father's affairs. In 0 BBY, Maliss was sent to Tatooine to hunt Zhalo III, the last scion of the former noble house Xianfeng.[2] He entered Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina in Mos Eisley in pursuit of information; there, he witnessed a violent confrontation between Cornelius Evazan, Ponda Baba, Luke Skywalker, and Obi-Wan Kenobi.[3][2] Maliss later found Zhalo's homestead outside the settlement of Anchorhead, where he killed Zhalo and used several thermal detonators to level the compound.[2]
He was again present in Mos Eisley several months later, drinking with several patrons until the Empire enacted a system-wide curfew and he was ousted by the bartender, Ackmena.[4] After leaving Chalmun's, Maliss, Arleil Schous, Bom Vimdin, Caldera Righim, and several other beings were arrested by Imperial stormtroopers for charges including public intoxication, disorderly conduct, and violation of curfew. He and the others were given a sentence of community service by Imperial Supervisor Broyles. As part of this sentence, Maliss and the others were required to contribute to the production and filming of an anti-intoxicated speeder piloting PSA funded by Mothers Against Plastered Piloting.[2] Maliss was released with the others once filming was complete.[2]
Personality and traits
Ket Maliss was taciturn and spoke sparingly, often only in simple sentences. He took advantage of his natural Dashade physiology to intimidate others.[2]
He was markedly loyal to House Sizhran and, above all, to Xizor himself. He took particular umbrage with beings who besmirched his lord's name.[2]
While in Mos Eisley, he developed a set of tenuous friendships with Arleil Schous, Bom Vimdin, and Caldera Righim, and the four became drinking buddies despite their misgivings with one another.[2]
Behind the scenes
Maliss was initially a masked alien extra designed for the Star Wars Holiday Special.[1] The West End Games scenario "The Barani Conspiracy" identified him as one of the thirty-eight Dashade shadow killers.
Maliss makes a brief cameo appearance in the "Star Friends" public service announcement produced by Lucasfilm's subsidiary, Black Falcon Ltd. This appearance inspired the plot of the ReExpanded short story "Waning Shadow", which was included in the We Celebrate: Tales on Life Day anthology.
