Durgulla Masidii, called The Fat, was the Hutt ruler of Nar Shaddaa during the early New Sith Wars. Formerly a member of the kajidic Masidii, Durgulla renounced his family ties in 2004 BBY. Beloved by the peasantry, he styled himself The Fat Minister and forced the Hutt Cartel, bloodlessly, from Nar Shaddaa.

Biography
In 2004 BBY, Durgulla renounced his kajidic and invoked a peasant uproar to remove the Hutt Cartel from Nar Shaddaa. Fearing a bloody revolt, the other Hutts complied and returned to Nal Hutta. With his potential rivals removed, Durgulla named himself lord of Nar Shaddaa. He adopted the title of "Fat Minister", originally bestowed upon him by peasant petitioners, shortly afterward. Sometime afterward, he claimed the legendary smuggler Marcus Kregg as a debtor after a purposely-sabotaged spice run.

In late 1999 BBY, he was visited and challenged by Xira Morr on behalf of her patron, Urga Masidii the Elder. Durgulla pitted Morr against a newly-acquired terentatek in his menagerie; when she was defeated, he enslaved her.

Durgulla was visited by the Sith Lords Cinder and Fell, disguised as traveling Jedi. Claiming that Jedi were bad for business, Durgulla deceived them into making a one-sided bargain. When they returned, terms fulfilled, Durgulla planned to kill them. Concurrently, Durgulla and his court were attacked by the combined might of the Hutt Cartel, led by Urga Masidii the Elder and his retainer, Nem.

On Urga's orders, Durgulla's court was slaughtered, and the Fat Minister was killed by his concubines.

Personality and traits
Durgulla was a creature of impulse, and openly participated in a lifestyle of lavish hedonism. Like most Hutts, he believed munificence and excess were hallmarks of success. He, unlike his kin in the Hutt Cartel, believed that such gifts should be shared with his subjects. He hosted regular assemblies and spectacles in the Nar Shaddaa Forum to appeal to his subjects, including the Nar Shaddaa peasantry, and also held elaborated parties both at his palace and aboard his pleasure barge, Gourmand.

Durgulla was remarkably large for a Hutt, requiring two daises to support his bulk. Marcus Kregg opined that the Fat Minister grew in size every time they met. As with most Hutts, Durgulla practiced slavery, though he was considered to be "generous" to his slaves. Most of his slaves were acquired from the Nar Shaddaa Undercity by his "concierge" Arvis Xiu. He also took many concubines, preferring "exotic" humanoids. Those chosen were lavished with opulent bedchambers and gifts, routinely to excess.

When addressing his subjects and those he liked, Durgulla spoke in the common form of Huttese that dominated trade in the Outer Rim. However, when dealing with other Hutts and individuals whom he did not like, he employed a dialect called "High Huttese" that was mostly unintelligible to non-Hutts. This allowed him to maintain the upper hand in negotiations and to make lopsided bargains that always worked in his favor.

Behind the scenes
Durgulla the Fat was created by Astrid Meadows to serve as an antagonist for the second act of Dark Days I: Zenith. The character was designed to simultaneously exploit and subvert Hutt stereotypes. On one hand, Durgulla exemplifies the worst qualities of the Hutts: he is gluttonous, indolent, monstrous in size, and revels in appearing grotesque. On the other, he displays a generous streak towards members of other species—however warped it may appear. The core idea behind his character was "Jabba in Return of the Jedi, but worse."
